On Tuesday the Indian government announced the extension of lockdown in the country till May 3. After this the chances of IPL happening this year became bleak.
According to reports one franchise official said, BCCI is looking for another window later in the year after things go back to normal.
The adverse effects of Coronavirus pandemic have forced the authorities to either delay or cancel tournaments for the ongoing year. Even global events like the Olympics have postponed for a year and now it is going to happen in 2021.
Earlier, IPL 2020 was scheduled to start on March 29. The cricket board thought that things would come back to normal in that period of time.
It was a major setback for the BCCI in their quest to organize the 13th edition. Recently, a franchise official stated that the cricket board had informed each and every franchise that IPL 2020 is postponed at the moment. They are still searching for an available window for the tournament after the things come to its normal state.
“Yes, the BCCI has intimated us that IPL has been postponed for the time being, but they are hopeful of finding a window later this year as and when things normalize,” a veteran franchise official was quoted as stating by India Today on conditions of anonymity.
According to the reports, there are chances that T20 World Cup that is scheduled to be played in October might get postponed. If this happens, then BCCI will get the chance to organize the 13th edition of IPL in the September and November window.
