The Indian speedster Ishant Sharma is adding a new feather to his great Test career. The paceman expected to play the pink-ball Test against England, his 100th match in the most expansive format.
Ishant will become only the 2nd fast-bowler after the legendary Kapil Dev to play 100 Test matches for India. Overall, the right-arm will be the 11th Indian cricketer to appear in 100 matches in the red-ball format.
Ishant was involved in a conversation with the off-spinner and his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube channel. Ishant called an incident concerning former India captain, MS Dhoni, during the chat.
Ishant has shown a story from the 2014-15 Test series in Australia, which was Dhoni’s last series in the oldest format. Ishant told how he came to know about Dhoni’s unexpected decision of retirement. He was getting injections to bowl in the MCG Test as having pain in his knee.
“I felt bad (on MS Dhoni’s retirement). I had used many injections for that Melbourne Test match because I was experiencing severe pain in my knee. Nobody knows that he was going to retire. So, I was getting an injection every session,” Ishant said Ashwin.
When Australia declared its innings, Ishant informed MS Dhoni that he could not take any more injections. Dhoni responded that it is outstanding. However, laters, Dhoni said Ishant he left him alone in his last Test match.
“When it was Tea on Day 4 and Australia were about to declare, I told Mahi Bhai that I could not take injections anymore. So, he told me, okay. You do not need to bowl now. Then something happened, and he said to me, ‘lambu tune mujhe Test match mein chh*d diya’ (you have deserted me in a Test match). I did not understand. Then he refined, ‘you left me midway in my last Test match,” added Ishant.
The Delhi-lad said that he told Dhoni that he would have continued bowling if he knew about his retirement.”I was stunned. I said if I understood, I would have continued to play. So that was a touching story. I did not know till the last day that he was retiring,” Ishant said.
