The Pollock household seem to provide a legend in every generation. First it was Graeme and Peter, then came Shaun. Peter was a premier fast bowler who grew up bowling to one of the best batsman in the world, his brother Graeme. He formed a potent partnership with Joe Partridge in Australia during 1964-65 series which saw the Proteas come from behind and draw the series 2-2. After that came a young Mike Procter, who partnered him, together they wrecked havoc as they beat Australia 3-1 and 4-0 in successive home series. The most memorable Test for the Pollock brothers has to be the one at Trent Bridge in 1965, Peter took a 10-wicket haul and Graeme scored 125 and 59 as South Africa took a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. Peter along with 116 wickets in 28 Tests, was a useful lower-order batsman. He scored two fifties and averaged 21.67 with the bat. Peter was also instrumental when South Africa returned to international cricket in 1992. He was the chief selector at that time and his work ethics were followed by the team. One with no fear of giving his opinion, Peter voiced his opinion that Allan Donald should retire as he was very injury prone during his final years. He is also a trained journalist and lay preacher.
