The Incora County Ground in Derbyshire will be used this summer as a bio-secure site for England Women. Although plans for England’s international calendar are yet to be finalized – they are set to host South Africa after India pulls out of a proposed tri-series – all matches will take place in Derby.
Heather Knight’s team will be gathering in the field for a training camp, with ODI and T20I meetings likely to be scheduled for September. Derby is currently in use as the base for the touring Pakistani men’s team.
The announcement means Derbyshire will not play any games at their usual seat when the county season kicks off next month. The team has been training at Repton School since returning from leave earlier in July.
“England’s international fixtures are extremely important to the whole match at all levels, and we are happy to have been chosen to host these high level training camps and matches this summer,” said the manager General of Derbyshire, Ryan Duckett. “The Incora County ground has become a premier venue for international cricket, including hosting the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2017 and, more recently, a bio-secure training camp for the team on tour in Pakistan.
“This means Derbyshire will play all away matches once the domestic season has started, and this decision was made with the full support of our coaches and the playing team.”
The ECB worked to save its women’s cricket program in the wake of the Covid-19, which impacted much of the summer. England’s centrally-contracted players resumed training last month, with confirmation of the South African tour expected in the coming weeks.
