Mithali Raj became the first Indian woman to score 10000 international runs and second overall on Friday. The milestone came during India’s 3rd one-day match against South Africa in Lucknow.
The 38-year-old now joins England’s Charlotte Edwards at the exclusive club. Edwards, who retired from international cricket in 2016, has 10,273 international runs to his name. Mithali now has 10,001. The backbone of the Indian batting is also 26 runs short of 7000 ODI runs.
Starting the day on the 35 10000-run marks and 62 short of 7000 runs in ODIs (which would make him the first batter to get the mark in the format), the India captain started quickly and rebuilt the Indian innings after Smriti Madhana’s dismissal, assisting stable Poonam Raut at the other end. The duo shared 77-runs for the third wicket.
Mithali has scored 663 runs in 10 Test matches with the best score of 214 while scoring 6938 and 2364 runs from 212 ODI’s and 89 T20 Internationals, respectively.
