Captain Prithvi Shaw’s ravaging 73 from 39 balls followed by former captain Aditya Tare’s unbeaten hundred led Mumbai to their most deserving Vijay Hazare title triumph, a crushing six-wicket victory over Uttar Pradesh is one of the most lopsided finals on Sunday.
Choosing to bat, U.P. drove by opener Kaushik’s unbeaten 158 to post 312/4, but it was overshadowed by the Shaw blitzkrieg setting the platform for Tare to close out the chase in style with a whopping 51 balls remaining.
This is Mumbai’s 4th Hazare title and the one to remember for Shaw (827 runs), who now holds the record for the highest runs scored in one edition of this competition.
Shaw 73 off 39 balls and fellow opener Yashasvi Jaiswal 29 runs gave the side an aggressive start by adding 89 runs in 9.1 overs.
Shaw was given life at 5 after being dropped by Karan Sharma, and he then hit 3 fours in the second over to Aaqib Khan.
He then took it on Dayal, hitting two boundaries and a six over mid-wicket as Mumbai rushed to 32/0 after three overs.
Shaw continued his attack, scoring his 50 in just 30 balls, with a six, another pull shot, but then holed up in the depths of Shivam Mavi when another hundred was imminent.
Jaiswal and Tare added a 38-run stand, but the opener gave Shivam Sharma his first wicket after being caught by Mavi, but Mumbai was already on course with a run-rate of 8.5 runs per over.
Experienced Tare, who hammered 18 boundaries in his 107-ball knock, anchored the innings and found a skilled partner in Shams Mulani (36), while the duo took the match far, while Mumbai cruised to 174/2 after 25 overs.
Tare and Mulani continued to play shots as the duo added crucial 88 runs for the 3rd wicket. But Mulani came over in the 31st over, with Mumbai needing 98 more runs.
Tare kept the momentum going hitting Dayal for three boundaries in the 33rd over, and even Shivam Dube, 42 off 28 balls, played a proper cameo.
Tare completed his century in 91 balls, his first in List A cricket, with a single. The Tare-Dube duo took Mumbai on the verge of victory, adding 88 runs for the 4th wicket before the former captain played a back cut to the short third man to complete the run and formalities for the chase.

Earlier, UP post 312 for 4 in 50 overs thanks to opener Madhav Kaushik’s unbeaten 158.
Madhav Kaushik, who hammered 15 fours and 4 sixes, added 122 runs in his 156-ball knock, and Samarth Singh 55 off 73 balls for the 1st wicket to set the foundations of a big score.
It will be some consolation for Kaushik that he is now the highest individual scorer in a National One Day Championship final, surpassing Mayank Agarwal’s 125 against Punjab in 2014.
Brief Scores: Uttar Pradesh 312/4 (Madhav Kaushik 158*, Aksh Deep Nath 55; Tanush Kotian 2/54) Mumbai 315/4 (Aditya Tare 118*, Prithvi Shaw 73; Sameer Choudhary 1/43) won by six wickets.
