India Announces Squads for 19th Asian Games Cricket Event
On July 14, 2023, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian men’s and women’s squads for the 19th Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China. This marks India’s first participation in the cricket event.
Cricket was previously included in the Asian Games in 2010 and 2014, but India did not send teams in those editions. After a 12-year break, India is now set to compete in the Asian Games.
Women’s Squad
Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the Indian women’s team in the T20 cricket competition at the Asian Games. Smriti Mandhana has been named as Kaur’s deputy in the 15-member squad. The team has a strong chance of winning a medal, following their silver medal performance at the Commonwealth Games.
“The Women’s Selection Committee has picked India’s squad for the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 to be held from September 19 to October 8, 2023 at Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field. The women’s cricket competition will take place from September 19 to 28, 2023 in a T20 format,” stated the BCCI.
The women’s squad includes Harmanpreet Kaur (Captain), Smriti Mandhana (Vice-Captain), Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh (wicketkeeper), Amanjot Kaur, Devika Vaidya, Anjali Sarvani, Titas Sadhu, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Minnu Mani, Kanika Ahuja, Uma Chetry (wicketkeeper), Anusha Bareddy. There is also a standby list of players.
Men’s Squad
The men’s team features IPL performers who have been given the opportunity to showcase their talent on a global stage. Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named as the captain of the side. The senior Indian team players will not be part of the squad as they will be preparing for the World Cup 2023 tournament.

The men’s squad includes Ruturaj Gaikwad (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rahul Tripathi, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wicketkeeper), Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Shivam Mavi, Shivam Dube, Prabhsimran Singh (wicketkeeper). There is also a standby list of players.
