Dwayne Bravo’s Heroics Not Enough as Washington Freedom Register First Win in Major League Cricket
Dwayne Bravo showcased his all-round skills for Texas Super Kings (TSK) but it wasn’t enough as Washington Freedom (WAF) secured their first victory in the Major League Cricket (MLC) tournament. The match took place at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Sunday evening.
Tough Start for TSK
TSK had a rough start while chasing 164 for their second consecutive win. Devon Conway, who was the hero of their previous match, was dismissed for a golden duck on the fifth ball of the first over. Faf Du Plessis’ side lost five wickets within 9 overs, with just 50 runs on the board.
Bravo’s Stunning Innings
However, Dwayne Bravo, with his vast experience of playing over 500 T20 matches, decided to put on a show for the Texas fans. Coming in at No.7, Bravo smashed a scintillating 76 off just 39 balls, including five fours and six sixes. His innings single-handedly revived Super Kings’ hopes of chasing the target.
Nail-biting Finish
In the 18th over, Bravo took on WAF pacer Anrich Nortje, scoring 17 runs. He added 12 more runs in the following over bowled by Marco Jansen, leaving the Super Kings with a requirement of 27 runs off the final six balls. Bravo’s six off the second ball of the last over kept the Freedom team on their toes. However, despite hitting a four and a six on the last two balls, TSK fell short by seven runs.
Matthew Short Shines for Washington Freedom
In the earlier innings, Matthew Short played a superb knock for Washington Freedom, scoring 80 runs off 50 balls. Although other batters fell quickly, they formed brief partnerships with Short, helping to push the team’s total to 163/5. Bravo showcased his bowling skills at the death, conceding only 28 runs.
Washington Freedom’s victory earned them two points in the tournament.
