Dinesh Karthik praises Virat Kohli’s gritty knock in the second Test against West Indies
Veteran India keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has praised ace batter Virat Kohli for his impressive performance in the ongoing second Test against West Indies. India is currently leading the two-Test series by 1-0.
Kohli’s 500th international match
Kohli is playing in his landmark 500th international match for India. Karthik mentioned that Kohli’s intensity and energy made it seem like he was playing in his fifth Test.
Kohli’s hunger and performance
Karthik lauded Kohli’s hunger and determination as he ended day one with an unbeaten score of 87, while India finished at 288/4. He also praised Ravindra Jadeja’s contribution with a score of 36*.
\”We can all admire the beautiful shots that Kohli played, like the cover drives and pulls. Despite playing his 500th match, he approached it with the hunger and determination of a player in his fifth match. He fought through the challenging pitch and displayed the same spirit as he did in the first Test,\” said Karthik on Cricbuzz.
Kohli’s impactful knock
Karthik acknowledged that although Kohli’s innings was not his most fluent one, he made it count when India was in trouble at 182/4. After a solid partnership between Rohit Sharma (80) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (57), quick wickets of Shubman Gill (10) and Ajinkya Rahane (8) allowed West Indies to make a comeback.
\”If you listen to Rahul Dravid speak about Kohli, he emphasizes respect and sacrifices. These qualities shine through in this innings once again. Although not at his best, Kohli’s mental presence and ability to tough it out made a significant impact for Team India,\” Karthik added.
Aakash Chopra commends Kohli’s discipline in his 500th game
Aakash Chopra also praised Virat Kohli, stating that his discipline is what sets him apart. He highlighted Kohli’s ability to score a half-century in his 500th game as a testament to his discipline.
\”Virat Kohli became the first batter to score a half-century in his 500th game. When someone plays 500 games, discipline is the most important aspect. Kohli reigns because of his discipline,\” said Chopra on his YouTube channel.
Chopra went on to explain that Kohli relies on determination, dedication, and discipline to excel in his career.
\”We can see these qualities in the innings he played. Absolute determination, dedication, and discipline are the pillars of his success. He took his time to settle in, showing no hurry. His driving, which is another ‘D’, was beautiful. Despite being known as a bottom-handed player, his driving was exceptional, making him unique. He has been stellar in this match,\” added Chopra.
Kohli and Jadeja have currently added 106* runs for the fifth wicket, contributing to India’s strong position in the match.
