Rift Rumors between Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni during IPL 2022
During the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), there were rumors circulating about a rift between Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni.
However, former CSK batter Ambati Rayudu recently dismissed these claims, stating that the alleged rift was nothing more than media gossip.
Jadeja’s Captaincy Stint and Dhoni’s Return
Prior to the IPL 2022 season, Dhoni handed over the captaincy to Jadeja. Unfortunately, the all-rounder had a rough start as the team only won two out of the first eight games. As a result, Jadeja decided to step down and Dhoni was re-appointed as CSK’s skipper.
During a post-match interaction, Dhoni mentioned that Jadeja knew a year in advance that he would be taking over the captaincy in the 2022 season. However, he struggled to perform under pressure, leading to speculations of a rift within the CSK camp.
Rayudu Clarifies the Situation
In a recent interview with Behindwoods TV, Rayudu clarified that Jadeja was not upset with Dhoni.
According to Rayudu, “I don’t think Jaddu was upset with Mahi bhai at all. It was just that he was sad because the team wasn’t performing well. Everyone’s performances that year were not up to the mark.”
CSK’s Performance in IPL 2022
CSK finished the IPL 2022 season in the 9th position on the points table, among 10 teams. They managed to win only four matches out of 14 in the league.
Jadeja’s Redemption in IPL 2023
After the disappointment of the previous year, Jadeja made a triumphant return in IPL 2023. He hit the winning runs in the final, securing CSK’s fifth IPL title.
Rayudu added, “He (Dhoni) has nurtured Jadeja for 10-12 years and made him who he is today. So he would naturally be happy that the product he developed won the final for CSK after what happened last year.”
Hopes for Dhoni’s Leadership in IPL 2024
Rayudu expressed his hope that Dhoni will continue to lead the Super Kings in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League.
According to Rayudu, “That’s a testament to how CSK keeps its family together. I hope Mahi bhai leads the team in the next season. As long as he wants to play, he should lead the team.”
