Stuart Broad becomes England’s second seamer and only the seventh bowler to join the special club of 500 wickets.

Stuart Broad sealed his place in one of cricket’s most special clubs, picking up his 500th Test wicket on the final morning of England’s series decider against the West Indies.

Just six other players have ever achieved that feat, including Broad’s long-time partner James Anderson.

The pair have shared a lot over the years, and their enduring link extended to the identity of Broad’s landmark victim opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite, who had also been Anderson’s 500th scalp back in 2017.

After two successive nights stuck on 499 wickets, await extended by Monday’s washout at Emirates Old Trafford, Broad endured another brief rain delay on day 5. Stuart Broad, who took 6 wickets in the first innings, needed one wicket to complete 500 Test scalps, which he did by ending the show of opener Kraigg Brathwaite (19) in the 13th over of West Indies’ second innings.

A magic moment @StuartBroad8! 🦁🦁🦁

The teams were forced off after 25 minutes and 25 runs scored, but the brief delay did not derail the 34-year-old seamer, who struck with the 3rd ball of his 4th over.

Having risked a couple of boundaries with his aggressive line, he went full and straight at Brathwaite and landed one of the clearest lbw appeals imaginable.

The umpire’s finger went up immediately, and there was never any prospect of a DRS review delaying Broad’s celebrations. He was mobbed by his teammates and eventually held the ball aloft to mark the moment, albeit in front of the customary empty stands in this bio-secure Test series.

Woakes continued his momentum to grab a 5-wicket haul by sending both Jason Holder (12) and Shane Dowrich (8) back to the pavilion. It was Woakes’ 4th 5 wicket haul in Test cricket.

Broad again came back into the attack and finished the proceedings by dismissing Jermaine Blackwood (23) to complete his 10-wickets in the match.

Just like the second Test Match, England completely dominated the 3rd Test and beat West Indies by 269 runs to win the first series post coronavirus outbreak and last Wisden Trophy. The game could’ve ended on Day 4, and it got washed away with any ball being bowled. Windies who lost their 2 wickets at the end of Day 3 resumed the final day at their overnight score of 10/ 2.
