The India A team secured their spot in the final of the ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup 2023 by defeating Bangladesh in a dramatic match at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday (July 21).

After being asked to bat first, the Indian team faced difficulties in getting their innings going and were eventually bowled out for 211 runs in 49.1 overs. However, Yash Dhull played a resilient innings of 66 runs off 85 balls, with valuable support from Abhishek Sharma (34), to help India reach a competitive total.
Bangladesh falls short in the chase
In pursuit of 212 for victory, the Bangladesh innings started well with Mohammad Naim (38 runs) and Tanzid Hasan (51 runs) building a strong foundation. However, the Indian bowlers took wickets at regular intervals, making it challenging for the Bangladeshi batters to form partnerships.

Nishant Sindhu was the standout performer for India with the ball, achieving a brilliant 5-wicket haul for just 20 runs in his eight overs. India’s fielding also played a crucial role in their victory, with Riyan Parag’s exceptional catch at slip being a standout moment. Parag’s quick thinking and anticipation led to a sharp catch that dismissed Rakibul Hasan.

The catch occurred on the final ball of the 32nd over, when Rakibul Hasan attempted a reverse sweep but misjudged the delivery. Riyan Parag was positioned perfectly at slip and completed a smart catch. Parag’s celebration included some words directed at the Bangladeshi batter, adding to the excitement of the moment.
