West Indies to Miss the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023
The upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, taking place in India from October 5 to November 19, will not feature the West Indies. This is a significant moment as the West Indies were champions of the first two editions of the tournament in 1975 and 1979.
Andre Russell’s Desire to Represent the West Indies
Following the recent setback, Andre Russell has expressed his eagerness to play for the national side once again. The all-rounder has made it clear that he would be willing to miss out on franchise leagues if it means being selected for the West Indies team.
Russell, who has been a prominent figure in franchise leagues worldwide, last represented the West Indies in 2021. However, he was not considered for the T20 World Cup 2022 along with other senior players.
“I am available and I want to be a part of the next World Cup. It would be something special for me if they include me in the squad,” Russell stated to the Jamaica Observer.
“I am willing to play in a couple of series to make myself available. I understand that I may need to sacrifice participating in some leagues in order to play for the West Indies. I am prepared to do that and give them the best chance in the World Cup. I am willing to contribute in any way possible,” he added.
Russell also mentioned his interest in the upcoming India series but clarified that no official communication has been made to him yet. Despite this, he continues to focus on his training and remains committed to his goals.
