Erin Burns and Heather Graham are the new Aussie cricketers, people eagerly waiting for to make their debut in the next series against West Indies. On Friday, the team named their 14-player squad which includes Burns and Graham for the first time. The upcoming one-day and T-20 series will help them keep their home T20 World Cup preparation an inch above the level.
Burns and Graham are replacing Sophie Molineux and Elyse Villani, and lately, Nicole Bolton was also unavailable after their recent Ashes win. Anyone could expect Graham in the 14-women squad as she comes off being Australia’s next talent and ranks in Western Australia. Graham is only 22 and won the domestic player of the year last season for topping the run-scoring in the one-day cricket with 294 at 49. She even took 11 wickets at 20. And on the other hand, Burns makes the 14-women squad due to her persistence in these two formats of the game.
“Erin has also been a stand out performer at domestic level and has had to bide her time for a national call-up,” chief selector Shaun Flegler added. “(Heather)’s skills with the ball will add further depth to the team’s pace bowling stocks while her batting ability could see her play an important role in the middle-order.”
“These selections reinforce our desire to select players with a view to the T20 World Cup next year who offer versatility, can play a designated role and offer skills in several different facets of the game,” Shaun Flegler said.
