There is little denying that the BCCI is desperate to conduct the Indian Premier League as soon as action resumes. The 13th edition of the league was set to get underway on March 29 with a clash between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai.
However, a couple of weeks before the scheduled start, the BCCI suspended the league till mid-April in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. And last month, the board suspended the league indefinitely in the light of the pandemic. With the government now extending the lockdown, further, the chances of IPL taking place this summer is all but over.
Several reports have suggested that the BCCI is looking to conduct the league in the second half of the year. Some reports have indicated that even the T20 World Cup in October could be postponed to make room for the IPL to take place.
And while only time will tell how things work out in the coming days, Daily Mail has reported that the IPL 2020 could overlap with England’s tour of India later this year. The news outlet claimed that while the ECB has not been involved directly in talks with the BCCI, they are aware of the different contingencies being drawn up.
That also includes holding a full-scale IPL if the T20 World Cup is moved from its October-November slot into the first quarter of 2021. As things stand, England’s limited-overs team is scheduled to fly out to India on September 16 for three ODIs three T20Is.
And BCCI is reportedly keen to conduct a truncated IPL during that time in Dubai. In such a case, there are doubts over the series between the two countries The news outlet also claimed that BCCI might request to change the date of the series if it decided to go ahead and host the IPL in September.
