Guptill & Neesham makes comeback on high against Sri Lanka

At 126/2, SriLanka needed some rebuilding, and the free-flowing Kusal Perera ensured things never moved out from hand. He cracked pacer Lockie Ferguson for just 2 fours after which meted out the same therapy method to Mark Henry to keep the momentum rolling. The swift wickets of both Kusal Mendis and (18) and also Dinesh Chandimal (10) left him unfazed as he travelled about his business with aplomb. While Sri Lanka maintained losing wickets at the same end, Kusal Perera kept playing strokes easily and brought up his fourth ODI century using back to back fours off Henry. However, when he fell for 102 (85 balls), the writing was to the wall for those readers. None of the additional batsmen could show the same resilience as the newest Zealand bowlers closed the proceedings within the 49th over. In reply, SriLanka put up valiant combat headed by an 85-ball 102 from Kusal Perera as well as also a half-century from Niroshan Dickwella, but in the end, were bowled out for 326 with Neesham shining with the chunk as well.

Electing to bat early on a glorious evening at Bay Oval, Colin Munro was upward and about immediately first punching Nuwan Pradeep to get a cracking cover drive to acquire his border counter managing and smashing Lasith Malinga within the big mid wicket fence for a max. But, that was all he could afford on the afternoon since the Srilankan captain soon had his revenge deceiving Munro with a trademark continuous delivery for 13 which flew off the lefthander’s leading border and into the fingers of Lakshan Sandakan on the position.

Kane Williamson started out off his innings with probably the most glorious cover driveway as the runs started to stream to its hosts. Pradeep has been hammered for a few fours in an over by Guptill with batsmen appearing set for the long term.

Guptill so-on attracted his half-century in only 54 balls hitting the landmark using a mighty six over extra pay off leg-spinner Seekuge Prasanna. The 6 also brought up New Zealand’s 100 from the 18th above. It did not take miss Williamson far as well to reach 34th ODI half-century in his home ground.

When Pradeep comes back for his second spell bowls a shortish span delivery just outside off, and Williamson was attempting to dab on it down to the third man could just chop it back on his stumps to get a 74-ball seventy-six. He even threw back his head in disgust, however, the 163-run stand in between him and Guptill experienced set New Zealand a more great platform.

A belligerent 138 on yield from Martin Guptill backed up by way of an excellent all-around show by James Neesham assisted NewZealand trump a spirited Sri-Lanka by 45 runs at the first One-Day International in Mount Maunganui on Thursday (January 3).

Playing with his very initial worldwide in over nine months, Guptill experienced admitted into some rustiness planning into the first ODI. Far from it, the 34-year-old appeared as eloquent as to bring up his 14th century at the 50-over format. James Neesham subsequently piled Sri Lanka’s misery breaking 4-7 in just 13 balls that comprised 5 sixes in an over of Thisara Perera to carry the hosts to a mammoth 371/7.

With Williamson having noticed his jelqing bowlers carted four conducts he had someone to measure upward and restarting the scoring speed. Neesham did you better since he got rid of set openers in successive overs. He had Gunathilaka strangled down leg for 43 and then got rid of the dangerous Dickwella to get a 50-ball 76 which comprised eight fours and 3 sixes. Neesham revealed his worth with the ball also and has been by far the best bowler in your day picking up 3/38 in his 8 overs. Legspinner I Sodhi, both Ferguson and Trent Boult all chipped in with just two wickets Too. Ross Taylor then combined his great mate Guptill in the middle, and the duo made sure no one of all the momentum has been dropped. Guptill reached his century using a flashing drive Prasanna, shooting 111 chunks to mark a romping come-back to New Zealand colours.

Both batsmen upped the ante article Guptill’s century. As the opener feasted on spinners, Sandakan and Prasanna, Taylor tore apart Pradeep carting both sixes and a four at the 41st over. However, equally collapsed in a span of 3 overs to supply SriLanka a while aid.

Thisara Perera first brought a stop to the 88-run stand with the wicket of both Guptill inducing a top advantage for Sandakan to take a simple catch in the position. Taylor subsequently dropped soon too for a 37-ball fifty-four since the people pegged things back again. Henry Nicholls scores 15 and Tim Seifert 11 on his debut, way far also dropped in rapid succession, and it seemed in the point that Sri Lanka would restrict the hosts beneath the 340-run markers.

Neesham though had other ideas. Even the lefthander made a mockery of all Thisara Perera’s figures carting the pacer for 34 runs at the penultimate over of the innings. He slammed on the first ball directly back over the bowler’s head while the next 3 disappeared across the leg fence. A waist-high ball was followed by another 6 as Neesham made it five sixes of five legal deliveries. He was an opportunity to make it six from 6 but handled just one off the previous ball.

Chasing 372 was definitely planning to be quite a problematic request but Sri-Lanka, courtesy Dickwella along with Gunathilaka, received off to a superb beginning. The duo included 119 runs for the first wicket using the prior in unique.

Dickwella gets going in his natural ability bringing out his complete collection of strokes which included scoops, rebounds along with probably the most unorthodox pulls as Gunathilaka fought with his own timing. Dickwella raised his half-century off only 33 balls as Sri Lanka brought up their a hundred from the 15th over.
