Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill to Get a Break from T20I Series Against Ireland
India’s T20I captain, Hardik Pandya, and opener, Shubman Gill, are set to take a break from the upcoming three-T20I series against Ireland, starting on August 18. This break is being given to manage their workload, considering the upcoming Asia Cup and World Cup tournaments.
Concerns Over Hardik Pandya’s Workload
Hardik Pandya, aged 29, is a crucial member of India’s ODI team, and his all-around skills provide the necessary balance to the side. However, due to his back issues, the BCCI and team management want to handle him with caution.
Hardik Pandya is currently in the Caribbean for the ongoing second Test match between India and West Indies. After the Test match, he will participate in the three ODIs and five T20Is against West Indies.
Workload Management and Travel Considerations
Nothing has been finalized yet regarding Pandya’s break from the Ireland series. It will depend on how he is feeling after the matches in the West Indies. Considering the travel involved and the short turnaround time of three days before flying from Florida to Dublin, his workload needs to be managed. Additionally, he will be the deputy to Rohit Sharma in the upcoming World Cup, so his fitness is of utmost importance.
It is important to note that Pandya is expected to play the majority of matches against West Indies, where India will play eight games in 18 days in three Caribbean countries and the USA.
Upcoming Matches
India will play three ODIs and five T20Is against West Indies in Bridgetown (Barbados), Tarouba (Trinidad), Georgetown (Guyana), and Florida (United States) from July 27 to August 13.
In Ireland, India will play three T20s in a span of five days (August 18, 20, and 23).
Considering the workload and travel fatigue, Pandya would face if he flies from the USA to Ireland and then to Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup, the decision to give him a break is crucial.
