Inzamam steps down as Pakistan’s chief selector
Inzamam-ul-Haq on Wednesday announced his decision to step down as Chief Selector of Pakistan’s Cricket Team when his contract ends on July 31.
Former Pakistan captain Inzamam said in a Press Conference, “After more than three years serving as the Pakistan men’s selection board, I have determined not to look for a renewal of my agreement.” he was appointed to this job in April 2016, duration which consisted of Pakistan’s victory in the 2017 Champions Trophy two years earlier.
Inzamam’s final task was to select the Pakistan squad for the World Cup, where the Sarfaraz Ahmed led the team finished fifth in the group phase and doesn’t qualify for the semi-finals.
He further added “With the ICC World Test Championship, due to get underway in September, the ICC T20 World Cup in 2020 and also the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, I think it is the ideal time for the Pakistan Cricket Board to assign a brand-new chief selector that can bring brand-new concepts as well as fresh thinking.”
“It’s been a delight to see these players grow as well as make names on their own in worldwide cricket,” Inzamam included.
During Inzamam’s period, players such as Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Abbas, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Afridi, and Usman Shinwari made their debuts, while Babar Azam established himself as Pakistan’s batting pillar in all three formats of the game.
