MI New York Secures Emphatic Victory Against Washington Freedom in MLC 2023 Tournament
In the 13th match of the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 tournament, MI New York (MINY) delivered a dominant performance, defeating Washington Freedom (WAF). MINY won the toss and chose to bowl first at Church Street Park.
Freedom’s Innings
Freedom had a decent start to their innings, with notable contributions from Matthew Short, Andries Gous, and Mukhtar Ahmed. Glenn Phillips, the New Zealand international, played an outstanding innings, scoring 47 runs off 35 deliveries, which included 2 fours and 3 sixes. Captain Moises Henriques also added 32 runs off 30 balls. However, MINY’s tight bowling, particularly by Kieron Pollard (2/33), limited Freedom to a total of 160-6 in 20 overs.
MINY’s Chase
In response, MINY showed great determination as they chased down the target comfortably. Shayan Jahangir and Monank Patel provided a solid start, but it was Nicholas Pooran who stole the show with an exceptional innings.
Pooran hammered 62 runs off just 33 balls, including 4 fours and an impressive 6 sixes. He started the ninth over with a massive six against Obus Pienaar and continued his aggressive batting display. The over resulted in 22 runs, almost guaranteeing victory for MINY.

Captain Pollard also made a quickfire contribution, scoring 21 runs off just 10 balls. MINY comfortably reached the target, scoring 161-2 in just 15.3 overs.
