Imran Tahir has served South African cricket well over the years, but Lahore-born spinner Imran Tahir is disappointed that he didn’t have the chance to represent Pakistan when he played there in his early years. Tahir moved to South Africa and ended up playing for his national team while representing various T20 league franchises around the world.
He credited his wife, Sumayya Dildar, for the move to South Africa. “It was difficult to leave Pakistan, but God blessed me, and most of the credit for playing for South Africa goes to my wife,” he said.
Before playing for South Africa, Tahir 41 had played for Pakistani U-19 and Pakistani A teams.
“I used to play cricket in Lahore, and it has played a major role where I am. I played most of my cricket in Pakistan, but I haven’t had any luck here, which is why I’m disappointed,” said Tahir during an interview on Geo Super.
Tahir has so far participated in 20 Tests, 107 ODI, and 38 T20I for South Africa and has scalped 57,173 and 63 wickets respectively in the three formats. He called time on his ODI career following the conclusion of the World Cup last year.
