Young Indian Opener Prithvi Shaw Talks about England’s ‘Bazball’ Tactics in Test Cricket
Prithvi Shaw, a young Indian opener, recently discussed the batting tactics of the England cricket team in Test matches, known as ‘Bazball’. However, he admitted that he doesn’t fully understand what it means.
Understanding ‘Bazball’
‘Bazball’ is a term used to describe England’s aggressive style of play in Test cricket. Since Ben Stokes became the captain and Brendon McCullum took over as the head coach from Chris Silverwood, these tactics have greatly benefitted the England team.
England’s Dominance
Prior to the Ashes, England had only lost two Tests to New Zealand and South Africa, showcasing their dominance in other matches.
Praising Mitchell Marsh
While Shaw finds it difficult to grasp the concept of ‘Bazball’, he praised Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh for his outstanding performance in the third Ashes Test against England at Headingley in Leeds.
Shaw’s Perspective
Shaw expressed his confusion, stating, “I don’t understand what they mean when they say Bazball. I assume looking at Mitchell Marsh’s bat that he’s a proper Bazball cricketer. People will come out with new names. The way I play is that if I see the ball, I hit the ball.”
He further added, “I don’t know what people will call that. Whether they call it baseball, hockey, or whatever they want to call it, at the end of the day, woh apna cricket hai (that’s our sport – cricket).”
Shaw’s Future Plans
Prithvi Shaw has received special permission from the BCCI to skip the Deodhar Trophy and instead play for Northamptonshire in English County cricket.
