Sachin Tendulkar praises Virat Kohli for his 29th Test century
India’s batting legend Sachin Tendulkar had nothing but praise for Virat Kohli, who scored his 29th Test century in the ongoing second Test between India and West Indies in Trinidad on July 21, 2023.
Achieving a Milestone
The Indian team resumed their innings at 288/4 with Virat Kohli unbeaten on 87 and Ravindra Jadeja on 36*. Shortly after the team’s score reached 300, Kohli cover-drove Shannon Gabriel for a four, bringing up his 29th Test century and 76th international century. Notably, this was his first overseas Test century since 2018 and he became the first player to score a century in his 500th international game.
A Long-awaited Moment
This was a significant moment for Kohli, who had not scored a century in international cricket from November 2019 to September 2022. The relief of ending this drought was evident on his face, and he received applause from both his teammates and the opposition.
Sachin Tendulkar’s Appreciation
Among those who applauded Kohli for his milestone was Sachin Tendulkar, who holds the record for the most international centuries. Tendulkar posted a photo on his Instagram story of Kohli kissing his wedding ring, which he wears around his neck, along with the message, “Another day, another century by Virat Kohli. Well played.”
